Similar to its lighter cousin the Hefe, the Dunkle Weisse is brewed darker (Dunkel means “dark”) with a big malt character and low hop bitterness. Reflecting the best yeast and wheat character of a weissbier blended with the malty richness of a Munich Dunkel. While the clove and banana characters may be muted by the dark malt character in the beer, they make for a very flavorful beer and warm fermentation can even lead to a banana bread flavor that can be quite pleasant.
