Powdered Brewery Wash or “PBW” was developed for Coors Brewing as a general purpose cleaner. It is excellent for removing tough stains and organic deposits on brewing equipment including kettles, glass or plastic carboys, buckets, rubber gaskets, kegs etc. It’s environmentally friendly, will not harm septic systems, and will not irritate skin under normal conditions.
Use .75 – 2 oz (1-3 tablespoons) of cleaner per gallon of water: Basic keg and carboy cleaning typically uses .75 – 1 oz (1-1.5 tablespoons) per gallon of water. Stubborn stains and really tough jobs can use as much as 2 oz per gallon. For best results soak for at least 20-30 minutes at temperatures between 100° and 160°, or by soaking overnight. NOTE: plastic carboys have a high temperature rating of only 140°. Also works well for removing labels from bottles, and as detergent for the dish washer (won’t leave that terrible, foam killing film on your pint glasses that traditional dish washing detergent leaves!).
